Volunteers are bringing more services to Tate South Lambeth…

Giving advice on small business

Do you want to set up your own business or are you looking for advice on how to run it?

On every Thursday in March ( 10am to 1pm) you can get one-on-one advice free from Wendy Jackson, an independent business advisor, specialising in marketing, start up advice and empowering small businesses with fresh ideas. (Find out more about Wendy on www.bitesizedmarketing.co.uk)

Places are limited so book your session by calling Wendy at 07931 576483.

Conversation sessions for Portuguese-speakers

After the launch last December of the Cantinho Português (the corner of the library dedicated to Portuguese books) and weekly classes in basic English for Portuguese-speaking adults, run by volunteers, the library is benefiting from another Portuguese volunteer initiative. Each Thursday there is a Portuguese conversation session – free and drop in – from 1pm to 2.30pm.

These Portuguese initiatives are clearly having an impact on the community’s use of the library. In the two months December 2012 and January 2013 the number of Portuguese-language books borrowed at TSL were up by over one third on year-earlier figures. This was at a time when total borrowing in Lambeth Libraries continued in decline. And the classes are evidently attracting more visits.
