Saturday January 17th is the date of the next library public forum at Tate South Lambeth Library– the face-to-face meeting of library managers and local people, held every three months, where the library’s plans are set out and its performance is held up to scrutiny by the general public.
So come along – at 2-4pm – to listen, express views, ask questions.
The big question the committee of Friends wants to raise is:
what’s the progress on the plan to redesign the interior of the library
At last October’s forum the library management told us that it wanted local reaction to proposals for a comprehensive redesign of the interior of the library, involving major changes in layout and furniture. The redesign was displayed in the library, and people were asked to post their views in a ballot box there by end November. Friends put a link to the design in our November newsletter and on our website.
Library managers received numerous responses from local people, including the committee of Friends which expressed major reservations about the redesign, which seemed ill-informed about the character of our library and what actually happens there. At the October forum we were told that, after looking at local reactions, library managers would settle on a final design, with work to start by the end of this March.
So where are we now?
