The latest library public forum (held on January 17th) heard the results of a consultation of library users on proposals for a comprehensive redesign of the interior of the library, involving major changes in layout and furniture (see earlier posting on this site).
The public response was negative. The result from 36 respondents was:
Against: 22 (61%)
In favour (including with some queries): 9 (25%)
Undecided: 5 (14%)
Libraries management had earlier said it would take on board the public response, and come up with a final proposal, for implementation by the end of March 2015. That schedule has now been changed, to:
· A re-staging of the consultation, with a questionnaire and materials on display in the library from the middle of February
· The inclusion in this consultation of proposals for exterior signage (including a new signboard and banners)
· The presentation at the next public library forum (on April 18th) of a revised design that would take into account the popular response, experience at other Lambeth libraries where this redesign has been put in place, and discussion with the design company
· Implementation around midyear.
