Open Garden at Tradescant’s Retreat

Photo0326

Starting in April and continuing through into August, the Friends gardening group is to run monthly Open Garden sessions in the Tradescant’s Retreat courtyard garden.

Every second Saturday of the month (so April 11th is the first date), from 1.30pm, the garden will be open to the general public, with direct entrance through the garden gate in Wilcox Close. Friends have purchased extra seating for visitors, and there will be shelter if the weather turns wet.

In the words of Heidi, one of the group volunteers:

Feel free to drop in and do what I myself like best: reading a book in the sunshine. This said, if you want to read a library book outside, you have to go in (through the main door) and borrow it first.

Obviously the volunteers of the garden group will be pottering around. We practically always have a few plants to give away against a donation and if a specific plant catches your eye, we often can grow a shoot off for you. We love to talk garden and books and if you have any gardening questions, feel free to ask.

This is a new activity for us and we don’t know yet, where it will take us. It depends on you as well. We hope to share the garden with many people, as creating a nice place to be in is what a garden is all about.
