At last November’s open day at the library hundreds of people (truly) came along to express their preferences on opening hours, building improvements, and additional library services and activities.
A number of them also responded to an invitation to volunteer, either helping in the activities programme and in support of library services or by joining an informal advisory panel of local people that would meet the library management in a public forum at regular intervals.
At this forum – to which all are invited – local people will hear what is happening at the library, what is planned and what is being considered, and can express their reactions and present their own proposals. Over time this forum would enable the local community to monitor the library’s performance as against its promises.
The first such forum is now scheduled – for Saturday 27th April 2013 from 2pm to 4pm.
We do not yet know the exact agenda for this forum but the committee of Friends understands that one item that will certainly feature is the budget plan for the 2013/14 financial year, when spending at Tate South Lambeth is scheduled to fall by £29,000 from this year’s £227,000, to £198,000, or about one-eighth. That will certainly be worth hearing about.
