Mrs Meredith and the Convict Laundries of Vauxhall and Stockwell

 

On  May 22nd Naomi Clifford, a historian from our community well known to Friends of Tate South Lambeth Library, will be discussing her recently published book Out of the Shadows This is a collection of essays on the work of 19th century societies to aid discharged women prisoners. Naomi focuses in particular on Susanna Meredith who established steam laundries in Vauxhall and Stockwell to employ women convicts.
The talk, which starts at 7pm, is free of charge. Just turn up.
